What to do While Waiting for Test Realm
Well, we have all been expecting Test Realm to be released for about 2 months, but it still hasn’t come. Here are some things that you can do while you’re waiting for the test realm, but have reached level 65.
1. Farm for Gold
What pirate doesn’t need some extra gold? I recommend farming for gold at Friar Sand because he not only drops a hefty amount of gold (and sometimes good gear!), you only have to defeat one enemy but get drops from all! You can also get more gold while you’re farming for gear; more on that later.
If you’re not going to buy 200,000 gold housing items like me, shown above, I would certainly suggest purchasing some companion Training Tomes from a Professor in a tavern. It is ideal to train all of your companions to level 65 before the new update comes out, and what’s a better time to do it?
2. Farm for Gear
Whether you are going to PvP or if you just need some extra powers, new gear can get that for you! There are several guides on Pirate101 Central that can get you the gear you need. Hopefully sometime in the future it can all be one guide. Here are the guides: Original: Levels 1-40, MooShu: Levels 40-45, Marleybone: Levels 50-55, Aquila: Levels 55-60.
There is also a new guide published by Swordroll that covers boss’ gear drops that look the same as the boss’ clothing! These are very unique so be sure to look at the Illustrated Guide to Unique Boss Gear.
Be cautious: There is lots of gear to pick from, and it may take many fights to obtain. Get a list of what powers you want, then consult all of the guides.
3. PvP
Some of us have had bad experience in Wizard101 PvP, but so far Pirate101 PvP is much better. I might stay away from overly crowded realms with random matching. I recommend setting up matches privately with other players.
It’s lots of fun, but make sure you have farmed for gold and gear before doing this! Duelist101 has some good strategies for PvP pirates.
4. Housing
You’ll also need some gold for this one! Buy a house from the Crown Shop, there are ones for every class and some that are Skull Island themed! (You could also get one from the Empire Bundle or Cutthroat Bundle- both $39 at GameStop.)
Housing is a little hard to find, but there is at least 1 vendor in every world, and you can get items from the bazaar or Crown Shop! Paige’s Page has a lot of information about housing, and showcases some houses for you to get ideas from!
5. Side Quests
Even though some side quests don’t seem like much fun, they often have very interesting storylines, great rewards, or both! For example, Zeena is unlocked from a side quest, and can be trained with Burst Fire 3, and has Rain of Fire arrow attacks. The Aquilan Pegasus mount is unlocked from a side quest. To find out more about these, visit the Pirate101 wiki to search for side quests you may not have completed!
While some of these may or may not seem like very much fun, I’m sure you can find something you like to do while you’re waiting for test realm to be released. Don’t forget, you can also make new characters!
What If: Introduction
Welcome to the start of another new series! (You can tell I like these. How To, Tradewinds Tribune) In these posts, I’ll be talking about things that haven’t really happened in Pirate101, and never will happen. What? I’ll be talking about what might have happened if the storyline was different. For example, take a look at what my first post will be; What if the Water Moles got away with Ratbeard?

We all remember that fight, right? What if our companions and us were having a Yum party in the Hole-in-the-Wall Tavern? What would have happened to Ratbeard? How would it have changed the storyline?
So that’s mostly what my “What If?” series will be about, with some elaboration and possible other quests. I hope you like them!
P.S. A very big thank-you to Destiny SoulTamer for this post-series idea! 🙂
Winner!
C O N G R A T U L A T I O N S to jason!
I’m sorry I can not get the code to you jason by Saturday. Thank you to all who entered in the giveaway, I still think 19 is pretty good for the first one. I will not have another post until Saturday, when I’ll be able to talk about Pirate101 – Sorry! I apologize for the delay, have fun in the Spiral!
Santo Pollo Ahoy!
Santo Pollo, ahoy! After doing, like, what, three dungeons? Two? Five bosses? Four? Who knows… I had to do a whole lot of hard fights, and died a lot. Well, after all that hard work, I got to Hidden Valley Ranch. …Whoa there, Hidden Valley Ranch? Like this???
No, no, no. Not like that. Like this…
Yes, yes, yes. Like that. That, was a hard dungeon to solo. Kind of a teleport-back-six-times-hard dungeon. Anyway, after beating up some cheese, (seriously, one of the bosses was Monterrey Jack), I headed back to Merriweather Clark’s home. There was a Red Sash surprise waiting for me! I defeated Johnny Ringo- not too hard- and then talked to Clark. He told me that he would let me know where his father’s piece of Marco Pollo’s map was, since I had saved his life… Twice. Merriweather… Seriously? Another dungeon? Whatever. I went over to the Scorpion Rock Cave to find the map, only to find it’s missing. Things are always missing. There was a note from Captain Blood. Who is this Captain Blood? Let Mr. Argleston explain.
Well then. That didn’t really help much, did it? Captain Blood is a pirate, obviously, and is infamous, obviously. To find him, I need the help of El Toro.
That El Toro. Who is El Toro? Let TheDeathshard‘s video explain.
Here’s a quote from a previous post (on this blog, of course.)
El Toro, the mysterious masked champion of Cool Ranch. Saving the innocent from evil such as the Banditoads, El Toro is a legend. He was almost never seen though. All we know is that he leaves a mark “T.” I am now defending the townsfolk so that I may get El Toro’s attention and get *that* much closer to getting the map. Here’s a quote from Pirate101.com just to sum up a little snippet of the Cool Ranch storyline.
Cool Ranch is a land of legendary figures: heroes like the Chicken Rangers, Wild Bill Peacock, and the masked hero El Toro, fighting lawlessness and standing up for the humble settlers; but the wild frontier has also fostered terrible outlaws like Libirdy Valence, El Guapo, and the dreaded Duck With No Name. Smugglers and pirates have always been drawn to Cool Ranch – far from everyplace, the dusty realm is an ideal place to hide.
But other than that, who is El Toro even supposed to be, other than the protector of Santo Pollo? KingsIsle made a play on words from Zorro, check it out- HERE
See the resemblance? Well anyway I thought it was cool how they can sneak things in like that (ex: Hidden Valley Ranch, El Toro, etc). Now, in Santo Pollo, I have to try and catch the attention of El Toro by doing favors for the townsfolk. My first mission? Collect sugar. I guess… It’s a start. Well, if you’ll excuse me, I’ll start fighting some Banditoads.
How To: Upgrade Companions
Upgrade Companions!
Welcome to the first “How To” post! In this post series, I will be explaining the mechanics of how to do certain things in Pirate101. This time, I’ll tell you the schematics of getting companions, but have a special focus on promotions and talents! To start us off, here’s a picture of Companion Management. Go to the top menu, then the hook, them My Companions to open this or just press “U” on your keyboard. (This picture was posted earlier on this blog.)
Check out this post I have, it is also really helpful and has this picture! Continuing on; A Companion Promotion is when your companion has reached a specified level and is ready for an upgrade. In other words, your companion physically changes, and gets better! I believe the first Companion Promotion is Bonnie Anne. She goes from a Fox Musketeer to a Fox Sharpshooter. You have to meet her in a Tavern and do a small questline to upgrade her. Below is the original Bonnie Anne. (She is upgraded on the picture above.)
Once you use Companion Training Tomes to level up Bonnie Anne, when she gets to level 8 a gray exclamation mark (!) will appear by her name in Companion Management. This means she is ready for promotion, and you can go talk to her in a Tavern Cellar to start the questline.
Down the hatch! If there is a golden/yellow exclamation mark next to the companion in Companion Management, that means they are also ready for promotion! This companion is special though, you have to buy their gear on your own. It costs a hefty amount of gold to upgrade these companions, but it’s well worth it! You might ask, what does a companion promotion do, other than add some new gear? Your promoted companion also gains Epics, or Epic Talents. These are similar to Wizard101’s Cheat Spells. They include things like Double Tap, where a ranged attacker gets to attack two enemies if they kill the first one. Here’s an example of another.
Remember, those are called Epic Talents. There’s just Talents, as well. They boost your companion’s statistics a little bit. When your companion is ready for promotion, there will be a little lightning bolt next to their name (ϟ). You can click New Talent to choose the talent you want. They will be like Agile, Tough, Armored, etc. If you mouse over each it will display what the companion will gain if you train that Talent on them. Talents occur at certain levels, but quite a bit more often than Epics or Epic Talents.
Do you see all the buttons? Hope this helped!
Pirate101 Tips – Companions
This is yer Companion Management Page. Go to the top menu in yer screen, press the Hook then My Companions. Ye can also press “U” to open this page right away. On this page, you can drag your companions around to adjust when they’ll show up in combat. The mini-picture by the percentage [of when they’ll show up] shows what class they are. Once this 4*4 grid is filled up, you get more pages of companions. The first companion slot is filled by your Firstmate. They will follow you around by default and always show up in a battle with you. I advise to put your strongest companion here, or the one you work best with. Companions can be dragged around the grid to adjust their percentage of showing up.
This is the Skull Island Kraken Skulls Tavern. There are Taverns all around every world, they might be a little hard to find sometimes. Press “M” to open your map, then look for the Yum Yum Fruit. Taverns are important for companions. You can improve them by receiving quests from your companions in Tavern Cellars.
Also Companion Training Tomes are vended in Taverns. Training Tomes are used to level your companions, they don’t just level up with you. You get a few Tomes every level. The farther away your level is from the companion, the higher the companion will level.
If a companion is defeated in combat, they will only return to you when you drink a Mojo Potion or return to a Life Fountain. Mojo Potions are only restored by Blue Yum Yum Fruit (aka Mana Wisps) and Minigames, but revive all companions and restore all of your health when you drink one. Minigame Kiosks are found in some safe areas and Taverns. Life Fountains restore your health gradually as long as you stay in a safe area and stay bound to the same Life Fountain. They also revive all companions.
Companions also act like an extra character in combat. Be sure to keep ’em ready for whatever comes at ye! -Also, as a fun fact, Privateers get the most companions.-
Thanks for reading, hope these tips helped! 😉

Yer Companions!

Companions are special helpers you pick up along the way in your Pirate adventures. They range in appearance and have different fighting styles and special abilities. Your Companions help you in battle as well as travel along beside you as you quest through Skull Island!
Everyone’s first companions is special to their story. Like a member of the Marleybonian Navy won’t have the same first companion as a Monquistan. In Wizard101, there were pets. These are like companions, just a little different. Not all companions are puny. They use abilities/powers/attacks during battles, but not just spritely (heal). You can get more companions through quests. Although you may acquire multiple companions, only one may be your pirate’s sidekick (at a time). As I said earlier, pirates AND companions can attack and use powers during duels. Additionally, when you complete special Companion Promotion Quests (CPQs)
As in Wizard101 with pets, you and your companion can get Attributes. They and what they do are listed below.
Also, I will tell you about Pirate Ships. These are almost fully customizable. I think it’s a way to let your creativity shine, but still sail through the Skyways in an incomparable adventure. In this post, I will just mention Pirate Ships, and tell you about them. In my next post, I will go over where you fly them and the details. This is just an introduction.
Some facts you’ll need to know before my next post are on the Pirate101 website, but I’ll restate them. Pirate ships in Pirate101 don’t sail through seas, but fly through Skyways! Skyways are the areas in P101 where the ships fly. More on that in my next post. You get to display your personal flag on your pirate ship. Also, your ships get better the farther you are in the game. Thanks for reading! I promise the next post will be longer 😛
